The College of Business' Search for a New Entrepreneur-in-Residence

The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and the Department of Management in the College of Business at Florida State University is seeking one experienced entrepreneur to serve as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence effective January, 2011. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching undergraduates and practical experience developing, launching, and managing new businesses. An MBA from an AACSB accredited institution is required, and a Ph.D. is strongly preferred. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.

This position is part of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, which offers a highly innovative undergraduate major in Entrepreneurship through the College of Business, as well as a Minor Program for students majoring in other areas. To-date, more than 500 students have earned a degree in entrepreneurship and more than 4,000 start-up businesses have benefited through an extensive set of high value development and outreach programs. Over the past decade, faculty from The Jim Moran Institute had published more than one hundred and twenty articles in top management and entrepreneurship journals. Their work has addressed a range of important topics such as venture performance and growth, financing for small businesses, initial public offerings (IPOs) and IPO firms, entrepreneurial learning and cognition, market orientation, innovation in entrepreneurial firms, and franchising as an entrepreneurial strategy. Key responsibilities of the entrepreneur-in-residence include:

  • Teaching courses in entrepreneurship and new ventures to undergraduate entrepreneurship majors and to students enrolled in the minor program in entrepreneurship.
  • Providing mentorship to students and/or faculty involved in starting ventures.
  • Assisting faculty and students with commercialization projects that involve development of commercialization plans for products and technologies under development at Florida State University.
  • Helping staff from The Jim Moran Institute with outreach programs that serve entrepreneurs and businesses in the region.

Florida State University is one of the two flagship universities in the state of Florida. We offer 94 Baccalaureate, 107 Master, and 73 Doctorate degree programs. The Florida State University College of Business was founded in 1950. Although one of the youngest business schools in the nation, it is one of the ten largest in the U.S. with over 6,000 students. The College has 114 full-time faculty, including 38 named professorships and 11 endowed chair positions, and offers ten Baccalaureate, four Masters, and eight Doctoral degree programs. The College of Business’s undergraduate programs were ranked 29th and 30th among public institutions in the Nation by U.S. News & WorldReport and BusinessWeek, respectively.

Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, Florida. Tallahassee is also home to the state capital and Florida A&M University. Rich in cultural diversity, Tallahassee boasts more than 31 community-established performing arts groups and, with two universities, it is difficult to find a day without a sporting event. It also has many undisturbed natural environment and recreational resources, including the popular 16-mile Tallahassee/St. Mark's Historic Railroad State Trail.
